Being Realistic

Dermabrasion

For serious cases of acne scarring, the treatment most often recommended is dermabrasion. Here, the top layer of the skin is “sanded” by a surgical disk spinning rapidly. After the procedure, the layer grows back, and is smoother. It is a serious procedure and involve quite a bit of downtime. Afterwards, it skin will be very sensitive for a long period.

Laser Treatment

Laser treatment is a more gentle approach. It is, however, also less effective against deep scars. By pointing a laser at the skin, collagen growth is promoted, and it can partly fill up the scars and make them appear more smooth. The procedure requires minimal downtime, but often needs to be repeated several times.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a much more gentle form of dermabrasion. Through a brush, fine crystals are blasted against the skin, removing dead skin cells, fine lines, superficial scars, etc.. It is mostly a rejuvenating procedure, used in cases of very fine scarring. As with laser treatment, it is common to repeat the procedure multiple times.
