How to Treat Back Acne

While facial acne is a fairly well known and common condition, people often are not sure how to get rid of back acne.  Oftentimes people who suffer with facial acne also end up with back acne. This is especially prevalent amongst males although females also can get it.

In principle treatment is the same as facial acne treatment with some minor changes.  Facial skin is usually very sensitive, and it is much thinner than the skin on your back. Therefore it is possible to use stronger agents on your back than you would use on your face, and in fact you often need to in order to make headway with clearing up back acne.

Not only is the skin thicker, but the oil producing sebaceous glands are also quite a bit bigger than the glands on the face, thus outbreaks of acne on the back can be quite a bit bigger than outbreaks on the face. This means that they will also be more painful and more inflamed.

As with most conditions, prevention is usually much better than treatment, thus you should take care to minimize the potential of developing back acne.  There are a few simple things that you can do to help lessen the possibility of this happening.

Change your shirt regularly
Dirt and sweat will aggravate back acne. Therefore you should make sure that you change your shirt very often, especially any time that it becomes sweaty.

Watch out for Irritations
Sometimes tags and other things on the inside of the shirt, or around the collar can irritate the skin. Minimise the irritation by removing the tag if necessary.

Wash the entire area
It can be very difficult to reach your entire back, however cleanliness plays a key role in minimizing acne outbreaks.  If necessary buy a long brush or bath scrub so that you are able to wash your entire back; and do not forget to wash your neck as well.

Medicated washes and creams
Finally buy the correct type of acne cream and wash. If you only suffer from a mild case of back acne you should be fine just using products that contain alpha hydroxyl acid. For more severe cases of  back acne try a combination of alpha hydroxyl acid and benzyl peroxide. Following these simple tips should help lessen the degree of acne on your back.
