Natural Homemade Acne Remedies – Green Tea

Green tea has been used as a natural remedy for acne for centuries. It is famous for its health benefits and has been popular in China for a very long time to cure all sorts of conditions. It is high in a chemical called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is an antioxidant. Clinical studies have reported that it will inhibit cancer cells and green tea has also been shown to be useful in relieving the symptoms of cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases and in lowering cholesterol levels.

Clinical studies have shown that EGCG, in addition to acting as an an anti-inflammatory agent, can help to decrease swelling of the skin that may occur with acne. In a study the American Academy of Dermatology used 1% epigallocatechin gallate in a gel which, when applied to the skin, improved the acne as much as, and many times better than, a solution of benzoyl peroxide. Also the cream did not cause dryness of the skin which is often a common problem with using benzoyl peroxide or many other acne treatments.

Lotions and creams can be purchased that contain green tea or you can easily make a preparation at home. add some green tea to water and boil, then gently apply the cooled down solution to your skin. Also you could make a drink of green tea which allows the nutrients to start to work from inside. Drink at least 3 cups of green tea each day and administer the solution containing green tea extracts to the skin three times a day. In a few weeks you should notice a marked improvement in your acne and you will have a clearer skin.

There are lots of uses for green tea for both losing weight and skin conditions, the treatment of acne is just one of them. As with all natural remedies for acne you should integrate this approach with a healthy way of life including drinking plenty of water every day and eating a nutritious diet. Don’t despair if your skin does not improve straight away. As is common with all milder cures for acne green tea treatment will improve the health of your skin over time.
